Actors Studio Academy Carnival @ KL Performing Arts Centre

(download)

Spent today at the Actors Studio Academy's Carnival 2010 with Florence. I wouldn't have known about it had Flo not bring it up in someone's post on Facebook two weeks ago. The Carnival is a two day event which ended today that lets folks "sample" thirty-minute to one-hour workshops the Academy offers.

Flo and I got there at about 10am and proceeded to plot the workshops we wanted to experience. Our first was a hands-on Gamelan workshop. I love the sound of these traditional instruments, much like the sound of Bali. I thought we'd end up making noise instead of music but we learned quickly that there are only five notes and the gong has only one, it's hard to fail on these instruments. I had fun.

Next was Theatre: A Way of Seeing. Sort of like an intro to the history of theatre. Then we went for a taste of Acting, Movement for Actors and finally Storytelling with the legendary Mano Maniam. All the classes made us participate in some way except Acting. The one workshop we thought would get us out of our comfort zones was just a lecture. LOL.

Would I sign up for any of them after this? I would for Mano's Storytelling. I don't think I'll ever make money as an actor but storytelling works off stage. Everyone loves a great storyteller.

KLUEplus5 Event

The great looking and the geek looking descended upon fashionable Changkat Bukit Bintang earlier this evening for the KLUEplus5 party at Daikanyama. I was told that you can always find an activity at a Klue party and I saw the restaurant's chef come out of the kitchen to give hands-on sushi making lessons. If you ever go there, you must-must-must have their wasabi ice cream. It is yummmmmeh.

KLUE is an online lifestyle magazine that covers people, places and events that energize and drive the City of Kuala Lumpur.

SMCKL #0 Video

Was a great night. It had taken 7 days to pull together by essentially 4 people who hadn’t slept much. Most of the planning was coordinated through twitter with updates posted to the hub set up on posterous. We also had great sponsors, Bob Chua, P1 and ruumz pushed the message out for us continuously and during the event the twitter community raised the volume so loud, you could barely see any tweets from Malaysia that didn’t come with the #smckl or @smckl0 hashtags. I am humbled by it all and I’m glad Lim Yung Hui had the courage to start this and include me on his team. I also have the honor of working alongside 2 amazing people who deserve more credit than they have been given. Thank you Ben Israel and Rachel Foong.

The following video was put together with pictures taken by Vernon Chan (@vernieman), Nigel Sia (@nigelais), Reuben Lau (@reubenhot) and David Wang (@blogjunkie)
