Spent today at the Actors Studio Academy's Carnival 2010 with Florence. I wouldn't have known about it had Flo not bring it up in someone's post on Facebook two weeks ago. The Carnival is a two day event which ended today that lets folks "sample" thirty-minute to one-hour workshops the Academy offers.
Flo and I got there at about 10am and proceeded to plot the workshops we wanted to experience. Our first was a hands-on Gamelan workshop. I love the sound of these traditional instruments, much like the sound of Bali. I thought we'd end up making noise instead of music but we learned quickly that there are only five notes and the gong has only one, it's hard to fail on these instruments. I had fun.
Next was Theatre: A Way of Seeing. Sort of like an intro to the history of theatre. Then we went for a taste of Acting, Movement for Actors and finally Storytelling with the legendary Mano Maniam. All the classes made us participate in some way except Acting. The one workshop we thought would get us out of our comfort zones was just a lecture. LOL.
Would I sign up for any of them after this? I would for Mano's Storytelling. I don't think I'll ever make money as an actor but storytelling works off stage. Everyone loves a great storyteller.
