Drawing Conclusions: Dan Roam Presents "The Back of the Napkin"

Roam has several theories as to why a visual approach to problem solving is so effective. In basic biological terms, about 75% of the neurons in the brain are devoted to visual processing, "so why not communicate in a way that uses all of it?" On a more social level, Roam notes that "people like seeing other people's pictures." Winners of World's Best Presentation Contest - Holy Kaw!

Resharing from holykaw.alltop.com (posterous needs a reshare feature :-))

Slideshare announced the winners of the 2009 World's Best Presentation Contest. The winner is Dan Roam with an entry called "Healthcare Napkins and All." These are the first, second, and third place entries. I was one of the judges, and I was looking for simplicity, sparse text, large fonts, and powerful graphics. Click here to see the category winners too.

How to Find the Right Chart Type for your Numeric Data

Media_httpfarm4staticflickrcom3077319638640201d8d12017jpg_sycrjedijbcqhka

If you are finding it hard to pick the right chart type for your type of data, this easy flow chart (available as PDF and JPG) courtesy Andrew Abela should help you make the decision quickly. Start from the center and take the route that best matches your data. Thanks Chris Lyons.

You may also want to check out Chart Chooser – an online tools that lets you shortlist charts visually. Chart Chooser is not as detailed as the above chart suggestion flowchart but the advantage is that it lets you download different chart types in a format that is ready to use inside Excel or Microsoft PowerPoint.
